Chris Maloney

Program Officer, Gender Equity and Governance

Chris Maloney is a Program Officer in the Gender Equity and Governance Program at the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation. He manages a portfolio of grants that aim to increase the use of high-quality evidence in social and economic policies that affect developing countries, primarily in Africa.

Previously, Chris was at the Digital Impact Alliance (DIAL) at the United Nations Foundation, where he was senior director for strategy and business development. He also worked at USAID in a variety of senior leadership roles, including as assistant to the administrator of the Bureau for Policy, Planning, and Learning, and as acting assistant administrator of the Bureau for Africa. In addition, Chris spent five years at the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC), including as the managing director for country selection and eligibility. He has lived and worked in over 20 countries across Africa, including as a management consultant for both McKinsey & Company and Genesis Analytics, based in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Chris holds a Master of Business Administration from the Harvard Business School, a master’s in public administration in International Development from the Harvard Kennedy School of Government, and a Bachelor of Arts in economics and African/African-American Studies from Stanford University. Originally from New York, Chris lives in San Francisco but has spent many years living overseas and in Washington, DC.
